Theresa & Ian's wedding at Shottle Hall

We were over at the lovely Shottle Hall a few months ago, and we were blessed with mostly decent weather! Theresa our bride was getting ready upstairs, right across the hall from where Ian was preparing, so we spent a bit of time scooting back and forth to capture a few details.

Once Ian was all set up and looking good, we got one of my favourite shots of the day before the wedding even started...

During the ceremony we got a few shots safely out of the way at the back, before finding a cosy corner to capture the couple signing the register.

After a few arranged group shots, most of the afternoon was spent capturing a more documentary style of work.

Theresa and Ian were up for a stroll around the gardens and grounds despite the cool weather and fading light, and it sure was worth getting cold for a while - what surroundings!

Luckily our bride and groom were up for braving the cold, and it turns out the fading daylight got us a nice dramatic shot before we packed up and went in :)

Others, of course, had the right idea and never ventured out!

Congratulations Theresa & Ian!

Kerrie & Matt's Wedding At Derby Cathedral & The Cathedral Quarter Hotel

It was a trip to central Derby for the wedding of the lovely Kerrie & Matt in the lovely Cathedral Quarter of the city on a stunning sunny day a few months ago.

We started with a visit to the Cathedral Quarter Hotel where the Bride and her party were getting ready.

As it's name suggests, the hotel is only a stone's throw from Derby Cathedral, so we popped up the road to shoot the chaps arriving before heading back to make sure Kerrie was managing OK without us.

As it happened, they were all fine, so while the ladies finished work on Kerrie's dress I supervised the girls while they dismantled the video camera.

One of the shots I was most looking forward to was when we got to accompany the bridal party on the short walk through the city streets to the Cathedral.

Inside, the Cathedral is quite stunning, and the priest kindly allowed me to borrow the key to the balcony to grab this shot.

Not a half bad pile. I love the sense of scale that the tiny bride and groom give.

After everybody had made their exit, we got a few sneaky shots back inside where the heating was still on :)

One thing I love about city centre weddings are the sheer amount of different areas and backdrops available to us that give us different looking results.

And talking of 'different', the shot below certainly counts :) The bride and groom had organised a shot with their dog, and he couldn't get to see them fast enough!

We spent a little time grabbing a few photojournalistic style shots before dinnertime...

Congratulations Kerrie & Matt!

Lucy & Johnathan's Wedding at Christ The King Church & The Peak Edge Hotel

Back in the short days of December we got to make an all too rare visit to the see the newly refurbished Peak Edge Hotel, & Red Lion Bistro on the wild Derbyshire moors. First stop was to see the girls getting ready in the room.

Then it was time for a whizz down to the church at Alfreton to see the boys.

After a while we got a couple of shots of the fella's party before Lucy's bridesmaids arrived.

This was the second family wedding we had shot, as the previous year, Lucy's sister Catherine was bride instead of bridesmaid!

I love this informal shot of Lucy and her bridesmaids just before they went into church for the ceremony...

During the ceremony the minister kindly allowed us to quietly sneak to the front corner to capture this lovely angle.

We didn't hang around long after the wedding as the temperature was hovering around freezing, and I had plans for later on involving a dusky sky, which I didn't want to miss.

You can see the winter sky darkening before we left the church, and I was concerned we would miss the dusk light by the time we got back to the reception.

And if we were more than a couple of minutes later, we would have. Fab timing and a ridiculously long exposure got us this result, *just* holding some lovely detail in that winter dusky sky.

I have to say that the shot below will probably stay with me as one of the most 'extreme' wedding shots in my 21 years of shooting!

It was around freezing, the wind was whipping in over the Peak District moorland so hard that I daren't let go of the tripod for fear of it blowing over.

We were shooting at around 1/4 second exposure with the LED lamp being held by Lucy's long suffering dad (thank you sir), but Lucy was determined this was the shot she wanted, and I think we can safely say we got it. When they called this place 'Peak Edge Hotel' they weren't kidding :)

Of course, five minutes later, and a glass of mulled wine in hand, all was well again, and we had our shot.

I even managed to talk Lucy & Johnathan into a last quick shot outside before dinnertime!

Congratulations Lucy & Johnathan!
