Jo & Richard's wedding at Melbourne Church

Melbourne Church I think has to be one of my favourites, it's easily in my top ten at least. A while ago I got to spend the afternoon down there with Richard and Jo and their fab families for a fun filled wedding day.

Things started off at Jo's parent's house where they were getting ready. When you get a smile like this for the very first shot of the day, you know things are going to be great :)

After we extracted the chaps from the pub over the road, we got a few shots of them walking up to church.

Below is one of the reasons I love Melbourne Church  - that doorway! More of that, later.

I'm a big fan of getting shots that are a bit more relaxed and and informal - sometimes totally candid. Luckily Charli the bridesmaid gave me plenty of chances.

THAT doorway again... Not done with it yet!

And for a photographer at a wedding, a viewpoint like this is just a gift...

For a final bit of extra drama we added some flash to the daylight and sat down on the ground with a good wide angle lens to show off the church doorway.

After the wedding everybody took a leisurely stroll to a local restaurant in the village for the reception. We decided to stay at church a little longer to finish a few more shots.

Sadly this time we didn't get chance to call in to the Melbourne Tea Rooms for cake sampling, but that just means I get double next time, right?

Congratulations Jo & Richard!

Amy & Phil's Wedding at Chatsworth House

This is a selection of shots from waaay long ago last November, but we got some great shots so I wanted to put them on here. Amy and Phil got married in a civil ceremony at the glorious Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.

Amy runs Polka Dot Florists in Ripley, so it's no surprise that her flowers looked this awesome.

After seeing the girls getting ready at home, we met the fellas at Chatsworth.

After we covered the ceremony discreetly from the back, we whisked Amy and Phil straight outside to catch  the light at the perfect level for a cosy dusky shot.

One our favourite parts of the day was when we got to shoot in the sculpture gallery. This is usually off limits, but was used in lieu of our usual golf buggy ride around the grounds as it was dark by now.

After shots of the families together, we spent some time shooting documentary style for a while.

As wedding breakfasts go, they don't much grander than this!

Congratulations Amy & Phil!

Our Bridal Shoot at Shottle Hall

So earlier this year our pal Benjamin the Cinematographer talked us into shooting some bridalwear at the wonderful Shottle Hall. Ben shot the whole day and produced an awesome promotional video that you can see in the next post down, or here.

Thanks must also go to lots of our other friends, all experts, who put together all of the different elements of the day for us to photograph, including:

Mimi Toko BridalwearThe Greenery Florists, Tina from Beau HairBrigdens Menswear, our friends Catherine & Jack from Stanleys Model Agency.

Working almost entirely with just natural light most of the day, here are a few of my fave shots...

From big bay windows in the shot above above, to skylights in the shot below, lovely natural daylight is everywhere.

As it was February and freezing cold, we didn't spend long outside...

Below you will get an idea the work and effort put in to create this lovely shot showing off the Derbyshire countryside. It's also a rare shot of me (left) showing my best side, and not looking in to a camera.

Tina from Beau Hair working hard...

More beautiful natural light, this time in the library.

For the shots above and below we did help things along light-wise with a silver reflector or two.

We finished just as the light was fading in the Orangery with the most dramatic gown of the day. Catherine our model was lit with a single light, balanced so as not to overpower the lovely dusky blue light from outside, which helps to add a nice contrasting colour to the shot.

Good grief, we're in FRONT of the camera for a change...

A little while ago we had the pleasure of working on a bridal fashion shoot at the lovely Shottle Hall.

The very clever Ben Pollard was producing a documentary style movie featuring all of the people involved, and this is the fabulous result. We even like the bits that we're in!

Thank you to all of the following for their invaluable expertise....

We'll be off back BEHIND the camera now :)
