Kathryn & David's Wedding at Sutton Bonington Hall

We made a trip down to the lovely Sutton Bonington Hall in November, hoping the early winter weather would be kind, and we were not disappointed.

I arrived to glorious sunshine and surprisingly warm temperatures, but first job was to scoot up to check on Kathryn's progress, and of course grab a few shots.

Meanwhile downstairs David and his best man were arriving, and lining up the Mini in pride of place for a photocall.

Below is a favourite shot mine showing Kathryn and her mum ready to head down and make their entrance for the ceremony, a lovely semi-silhouette.

Keara the bridesmaid was my new bestest friend. All day. :)

The registrars allowed us a few non-intrusive shots during the ceremony, and we got this lovely angle looking all the way down from the back.

Afterwards, Kathryn looked a little more relaxed!

We were so lucky with the weather, I had no trouble in convincing everybody to head outside while I climbed clumsily out of the bathroom window to get a nice elevated viewpoint.

After a few family shots, I got some time to float around and get some more informal shots of people enjoying the weather, before I put Kathryn & David back to work.

Years ago, we used to work really hard to avoid lens flare from the sun shining in our lenses, but I love that styles have changed so much that we actually positioned the couple the couple to backlight them, and catch some flare from the low November sun.

Eventually we headed inside for a warm-up, and to get a shot on the lovely staircase.

The picture below really deserves a decent caption, but really, I have no idea...

Check out the gorgeous conservatory that the wedding party occupied for their wedding breakfast, all cosy and comfy as dusk fell. Lovely.

Congratulations Kathryn & David!

Victoria & Andy's Wedding at Hazelwood Church & Shottle Hall

Still in Autumn (sorry, I know, I'm catching up) we got to visit Hazelwood Church and the beautiful Shottle Hall to spend the afternoon with Vicky & Andy. It was the second family wedding in a year I had shot for them, having also had the priveledge of being there for Vicky's twin sister's wedding the December before.

Everybody was getting themselves ready over at Shottle, so that was first the stop of the day.

Then it was soon time to make the short drive through the lovely Derbyshire countryside to Hazelwood, to meet the chaps.

Although we do love to show off our informal work on here, we still believe in capturing nicely posed, 'official' shots too, just like when the bridesmaids and Vicky's mum arrived.

We weren't short of chances for some great photojournalistic shots either though, especially of our new young friend, whom we got on really well with!

After the ceremony, and some fun with the confetti, we all made our way back to the hall, and I assembled everybody for one of my favourite shots, hanging out of the upstairs window.

Now with the amazing surroundings over at Shottle, I sometimes get some odd looks when I suggest to my Bride & Groom that we might want to visit the lovely, rickety old outbuilding usually tucked away out of view, but when we get results like these below, they come round to the idea quite quickly.

Sometimes it's good to turn your back on the obvious rolling hills and splendid gardens, and focus on some smaller details for a few minutes.

We made the most of the autumn sunshine with the shot below, filled in heavily with a fully zoomed in flash head.

We finished up with a couple of shots to show off the beautiful Orangery, just as everybody took their seats for the speeches and the meal.

And cupcakes.

All in all, an enthusiastic thumbs up all round!

Congratulations Vicky & Andy!

Serena & Richard's Wedding at Breadsall Priory

We were off to the leafy outskirts of Derby a while ago to visit the wonderful Marriott Breadsall Priory for Serena & Richard's civil wedding. They had an East-West mix of a day in the glorious early autumn sunshine.

We started off with a sneaky visit to the room where Serena was getting ready.

Not staying too long and trying not to get in the way, we popped off to find Richard, who was all ready to go.

When we went back to visit Serena, the transformation was complete. Amazing!

Being regular visitors to Breadsall Priory, we know the registrars very well, and have developed a good working relationship with them, so they allow to spend some time right at the front during the ceremony if the couple choose, knowing that they can trust us not to intrude.

That gets us great shots like these:

After the ceremony we were back outside in the beautiful sunshine, making the most of the gardens.

Looking through the following shots, it's hard to believe that Breadsall Priory is only four miles from the heart of Derby city centre.

We were quite amused to learn the Serena & Richard first met when he was teaching her Thai Kickboxing. In fact we jumped on the opportunity to make the most of this in their pre wedding portrait session. Check out our stunning couple a few weeks before the wedding in our studio!

Congratulations Serena & Richard, it was a real pleasure!
